The Exhibition
The colourful works on show is from the series titled ‘KINGS of the NEW CITY.’ The artist Kassou Seydou, using a unique style of blending traditional african fabrics and motifs, with contemporary art techniques of colour blending layer by layer, with a variety of medium. Each work contain signs, symbols, signifiers, and allegories in a visual narrative and story telling about the society in which he resides. The visions on show are frozen encrypted magic moments, scenes of contemporary Senegal. A urban landscape of daily living, entwined with the spirituality and physicality of survival on the margins-The exhibition focus close-up on specific areas in a number of images. The Arttist
Born in Ziguinchor, Senegal, Kassou Seydou gradauted from the National School of Fine Arts, Dakar, in 2001. He completed 2 years of art residency organised by the Association termed – Return Doors & Passageway. Seydou consider all scripts to be distorted lines. Broken circular lines of scripting conceptualised in his art, became a prominent feature in paint on canvas. The art works may be seen as as a script, written narratives, telling stories of a complex world. Distorted by the interplay of social issues, range of characters in a riot of vivid colours.
