The core foundation of Africanfuturism, is a global movement concerned with visions of a better future. One that is rooted in a collective awakening, African cultural belief systems, all centred in the vast continent of diversity.
This future includes African spiritualities, cosmology, metaphysical reconnections to the ancestors, DNA, histories, with a common shared destiny. All included in a future that is being constructed right now!
Utilising African traditional philosophies and knowledge systems, to decolonise the African mindset, from the place of origin, is no easy task. This complex process begins with humility. Unlearning, reconnecting, and relearning the basics of who and what Africans are, truly.
Incorporating the cultures of liberation, and the full spectrum of the creative arts, set in relation to a variety of themes, including science, faction, fiction, and new technology.
Taking full control of our presence, image, and giving the world a firm and true definition, of who we are as Africans, is of prime importance.
AFROFUTURISM
Generally, centred in an African American narrative, Afrofuturism is centred in the Western-Hemisphere, and started mainly by referring to science fiction and fantasy, set in a future aligned with space and new technology.
Afrofuturism challenge preconceived ideas of who and what Africans are. It redefines how Africans see themselves, and in what context the image of self can be perceived. It is liberation from the constraints of a society, living within systems of oppression, arrested development, and alienation. Especially, alienation from self, in every way.
