The Exhibition
The Art practice of ABE ODEDINA is inspired by the figurative and oral traditions of African Creativity, all infused with a trace of magic and fun. The intentions are to engage the viewers in conversations, filled with personal and universal references, that are familiar, at the same time strange. He says “my intention is to arouse the imagination and heart of the viewer, and to detonate ideas in another realm.” Click on Image for full size, and slideshow. The work on show can also be found in the book titled ‘Love and Hate’ published in 2020 by Ed CrossFine Art Ltd.

The Artist
Born and grew up in Nigeria, ABE ODEDINA is from a Yoruba background. He was an architect before he began painting full-time. His influence include the folk art of Brazil, Haitian Voodoo, Yoruba Rituals, Greek Myths, and everyday activities on the streets. “If you think art is a world in itself, then it has its officials and laws……But my work can’t be understood like that. If you believe that, you’re likely not going to even think my work is valid.”
